Roi
I help other people, which gives me greater self-worth
Roi serves as a housing rehabilitation instructor for those with mental health challenges. It’s an appropriate role considering his personal experience in self-rehabilitation and growth while coping with mental health struggles.
Having struggled with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and schizophrenia from an early age, Roi says he feels meaning in giving back to society, and in the balance between accepting and giving assistance to those around him.
I allow myself to be myself. I feel more capable in my own right.
Roi is determined to send a positive and optimistic message to others with mental health conditions. He derives tremendous satisfaction and a sense of competence from this challenging work, especially when he manages to get someone to smile and relax.
Roi revealed his personal story in a video that was shown on television and online. For Roi, this was an exposure of extraordinary magnitude. The responses to “going public” with his story were almost entirely positive, and he received many encouraging and supportive reactions.
Following this broad support, Roi says he feels proud. He is proud of the man he is—in all his parts—as well as of his choices, including the choice to be open about his mental health conditions.
I help other people, which gives me greater self-worth. I feel like I’m fulfilling my mission. It is possible to live and lead a normal life alongside mental health conditions.
“I also participate in a self-help program, so I have teammates there who help me and accompany me. It’s a relationship that’s mutually helpful.”
Roi loves listening to music of various kinds and styles. Beyond his deep love of music itself, Roi also uses music as a tool to encourage himself during challenging moments.
Situations and emotions are fleeting. I try to focus on the present and the things I’m good at. I look for the simple successes.
Roi is a person full of vitality, optimism, and inspiration. He believes in developing self-awareness, along with cultivating a stable and independent sense of self-worth. Personal connections and his social life also have a significant place in Roi’s life.
I have a family that supports me as much as they can, in their own way. I also participate in a self-help program, so I have teammates there who help me and accompany me. It’s a relationship that’s mutually helpful.
The house where Roi lives is a place of particular importance to him. It is a safe place for him, and he feels it satisfies many of his physical and emotional needs. Roi expends a lot of effort keeping it organized, ordered, and clean.
My home gives me pride because I designed it and created it. I have an eye-catching house. I have everything I need in my house. I love my house. I worked hard to make it the way it is.
Sometimes before bedtime, when I look at my house, I feel like I’m valuable.
